Wachau DAC
Větší transparentnost, jasnější informace a neochvějný závazek k původu – to jsou hlavní výhody nové klasifikace Wachau DAC. Toto označení bude sloužit jako spolehlivý průvodce pro spotřebitele a doplní již zavedené značky sdružení Vinea Wachau: Steinfeder, Federspiel a Smaragd.

Vína z Wachau budou nově klasifikována do tří kategorií:
• Gebietswein (oblastní víno)
• Ortswein (obecní víno)
• Riedenwein (vinniční víno)
Každá z těchto kategorií musí být vyrobena ze 100 % ručně sklízených hroznů. Za každou lahví s označením Wachau stojí poctivá řemeslná práce.
1. Gebietswein (oblastní víno)
Víno této kategorie, které může být vyrobeno z některé z 17 typických odrůd regionu, odráží rozmanitost Wachau. Vinaři mohou použít hrozny z jakékoli části oblasti Wachau. V této třídě mají vinaři větší volnost ve stylu vína – například je povoleno zrání v nových barikových sudech.
2. Ortswein (obecní víno)
Hrozny pro tuto kategorii pocházejí z jedné konkrétní obce nebo vesnice a víno zraje bez znatelného vlivu dřeva. Na etiketě je uveden název jedné z 22 registrovaných vinařských obcí. Jméno obce nebo vesnice smí být spojeno pouze s víny z odrůd typických pro Wachau:
• Grüner Veltliner,
• Riesling,
• Weißer Burgunder,
• Grauer Burgunder,
• Chardonnay,
• Neuburger,
• Muskateller,
• Sauvignon Blanc,
• Traminer.
3. Riedenwein (vinniční víno)
Vína s tímto označením jsou vyráběna výhradně z odrůd Grüner Veltliner nebo Riesling, což jsou hlavní odrůdy regionu Wachau. Nesmí být cítit žádný vliv dřeva ani být použity metody obohacování (např. doslazování). Každé víno klasifikované jako Riedenwein pochází pouze z jedné Ried (vinice). Na etiketě je vždy uveden název jedné z celkem 157 definovaných vinic (Rieden) v oblasti Wachau.
Tato nová klasifikace Wachau DAC přináší jasná pravidla a zároveň zachovává to nejdůležitější – důraz na původ, autenticitu a kvalitu.

Enhanced transparency, clearer information and an unshaking commitment to origin – these are the key benefits of the Wachau’s new DAC classification. The designation will serve as a reliable guide for consumers, supplementing the established Vinea Wachau brands: Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd.
The Wachau Origin Pyramid
Wachau wines will now be classified as regional wines (Gebietswein), local wines (Ortswein) and vineyard wines (Riedenwein). Each category must be from 100% hand-harvested grapes. Behind every bottle carrying the Wachau label stands handcrafting.
- Gebietswein. Wines belonging to this category, potentially made from any of the 17 typical regional grape varieties, reflect the Wachau’s diversity. For this class, wineries can use grapes from anywhere in the Wachau region. Here wineries also enjoy more freedom concerning the style of wine, with new barrique casks permitted for maturing, to name one example.
- Ortswein. The grapes for this category are provided by a single town or village, and the wines are matured without any perceptible oak influence. The label bears the name of one of 22 specific registered communities. Only grape varieties that are highly typical for the Wachau may be associated with a town or village name:
Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Weißer Burgunder, Grauer Burgunder, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Muskateller, Sauvignon blanc or Traminer.
- Riedenwein. Wines with this label are made exclusively from Grüner Veltliner or Riesling grapes, the Wachau’s leading grape varieties. No perceptible oak influence or any method of enrichment is permitted. Any wine classified as Riedenwein contains grapes from only one Ried or vineyard. The label always displays the name of one of the 157 Rieden in total that have been defined in the Wachau.
