TASTING NOTES: A particularly aromatic Sicilian variety,
with aromas of apricot, lychees and tropical fruit. Light
yellow colour with green hints; fresh and lively in spite of
a notable level of alcohol.
MATCHING: raw fish, pasta with sea urchins, fried
vegetables and fish. Also good with creamy white
cheese as well as vegetables with dips.

After Alastro and Plumbago, the wild flowers which decorate the estates of Dispensa and Ulmo, it is Terebinto which gives its name to a single-variety Grillo, arrives in perfect accord with the processes of research and making the most of indigenous varieties that we have conducted for more than twenty years in the Sicilian territories – Menfi, but also Vittoria, Noto, Etna and Capo Milazzo – where we have our vineyards and our wineries.

We have carried out patient studies on Grillo, repeating the work that for years we have done on Grecanico, for Alastro; now we present our very personal interpretation of two of the most important white grape varieties of western Sicily.

In this case we have taken advantage of a representative island variety, though relatively recent; Grillo is in fact ‘the youngest of the old’ Sicilian grape varieties, fruit of a cross between white Catarratto and Zibibbo, established by Baron Antonio Mendola di Favara (1827-1908), a passionate agronomist and viticulturist, in correspondence with the greatest European scholars of the period. Grillo actually originated in 1874 when Baron Mendola wrote about it in his diary; there are no previous mentions, as we ourselves have had the means to verify among the many treatises which we preserve in the great library at Dispensa, at Menfi.

For this new label we have selected the name of a shrub with bright fronds, always linked to Sicily and the Mediterranean countryside with its many evocations. The terebinth, cousin of the pistachio, enjoys not only the privilege of being able to pollinate its female flower but also to supply a formidable rootstock, thanks to the extraordinary strength of its roots which are able to force their way through rock. Its buds, which begin to appear at the end of winter, colour Mediterranean lands for ten months of the year, and the medicinal use of its leaves and sap is common among the people who live with it.

With Terebinto we wish to distinguish and endorse the typical characteristics of Grillo in the western area of Sicily; aromatic and intense on the nose, with notes of pink grapefruit, and then appearing complex and balanced on the palate.

PLANETA, ITÁLIE, SICÍLIE

Toto slavné sicilské vinařství bylo založeno v roce 1995. Planeta je sicilským producentem vína postaveným na dlouhé zemědělské tradici, který je hluboce spjat se zdejším regionem. Jeho počátky se datují kolem roku 1500, kde již po 17 generací hospodaří mezi Sambuca di Sicilia a Menfi. V současnosti Planeta obhospodařuje šest různých vinařských teritorií Sicílie zahrnující celkovou plochu 363 hektarů vinic. Ulmo v Sambuca di Sicilia, Dispensa v Menfi, Dorilli ve Victoria, Buonivini v Noto, Feudo di Mezzo na Etně v Castiglione di Sicilia a poslední La Baronia v Capo di Milazzo. Prostřednictvím svých rodinných hodnot a místních zkušeností umožňuje vést Planeta virtuální cestu napříč Sicílií a jeho největších vín z místních odrůd Grecanico, Carricante, Moscato di Noto, Frappato, Nerello Mascalese a Nero d'Avola. Na druhé straně produkuje skvělá a znalci z celého světa oceňovaná vína z klasických evropských odrůd Chardonnay, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet, kterým propůjčuje nezaměnitelný rukopis. Planeta je starobylá rodina španělského původu. První zmínky se datují do roku 1585, kdy se Michele narodil syn Nicolao, který zdědil pozemky a vinnou révu u Partanny. O nějaký čas později v roce 1694 Giovanni Pietro dostal jako věno pozemky a Pevnost Ulmo v Sambuca di Sicilia. Současníci Alessio, Francesca a Santi Planeta vkládají do tohoto projektu svou veškerou životní energii, hluboce zakořeněnou již po celé generace v této rodině. Úspěch započatý Diegem Planetou, považovaným také vůdčí postavou a obroditelem sicilského vína nadále rozvíjí i současní následníci, kteří si vytyčují stále velmi ambiciózní cíle se stálým ohledem na dodržení vysoké kvality jejich produktů. Alessio Planeta, bratranec Francesky, působí jako hlavní enolog. Francesca je zodpovědná za míchání a hledání optimálního cuvée, ale její hlavní starostí je obchod a marketing.
